Oh, how that monstrous new paragraph makes me very sad :( We should be able to do better.
I get lost half way thru (about where the note ends), and have to start diagramming to see what the "In other contexts", "Similarly" and Otherwise" apply to.
Richard: I agree. Maybe open an issue for this one, so we don't forget?

I'd be happy to try and attempt a rewrite, but can this be done editorially or does it need to go to core?
