If a footnote is meant to attach to a word immediately before a punctuation (full stop, comma, etc.), the footnote mark should appear after the punctuation, for visual spacing reasons.

Bad: foo bar\begin{footnote} ... \end{footnote}.

Good: foo bar.\begin{footnote} ... \end{footnote}
